What Does PFH Mean?

 

PFH stands for "Per Finished Hour."

This is the standard pricing model used throughout the audiobook industry.

A finished hour is one hour of completed audiobook audio that is ready for delivery or publication. Depending on the package selected, this may include narration, editing, mastering, and production services.

​

Because audiobook length varies based on speaking pace and writing style, projects are estimated using word count rather than page count.

​

Estimated Word Count to Finished Hours:

10,000 words~1.1 hours

20,000 words~2.2 hours

30,000 words~3.3 hours and so on...

​

General Rule

Approximately 9,000–9,500 words equals 1 finished hour of audiobook audio.

​

Example

A manuscript of approximately 72,000 words will likely result in an audiobook around 8 finished hours long.

8 Finished Hours × $225 PFH = $1,800
